Sounion, Athens: Panoramic Photograph Shot All Throughout the Day and Night

Greek photographer Chris Kotsiopoulos had a brilliant idea. For us, it takes only about 30 seconds to have a look at the picture and admire it. But Kotsiopoulos needed a little more time; 30 hours of continuing snapping in Cape Sounion, Greece.
He began early in the morning and stopped the next day, when he was sure he had what he wanted. Thirty hours alone, in the same place, preparing and taking pictures to get this result.
The result does justice to his patience. The 360-degree picture is a puzzle of hundreds of photographs taken that day. At first sight, there is nothing special about it. But if you look closer and pay attention to the details, you may see the panoramic view of Sounion, all day and night.
In the east of the image, Kotsiopoulos snapped the sun rays hitting the clouds and then the sun’s route through the day.
“From sunrise through sunset” could be the appropriate title for the photo, but that would not be totally true, as the photographer continued taking pictures all night long as well. At the bottom of the picture, you can see the star trails spiraling above a church.
And when the clouds came closer and the temperature was about 3 degrees Celsius, he had a hairdryer in his hand with which he dried the camera lens in order to avoid it steaming up.
“All my photos have a long story to tell, which goes back to the creation of our solar system, the formation of the sun, the planets, the earth and the moon,” says the Greek photographer.
Difficulties he faced included many hours of standing there to capture the images, staying awake and dealing with the moisture.
