Former Minister's Wife Remanded in Custody on Money Laundering Charges

Former minister Akis Tsochatzopoulos’ wife, Vicky Stamatis, was remanded in custody today after the mutual decision of the investigating judge and prosecutor examining the money laundering case.
Mrs. Stamatis’ brother, Panayotis Stamatis, was released after his sister entered her plea on the restraining orders of a twice-a-month desk appearance and prohibition of leaving the country. The judicial authorities also ruled the confiscation of all property in the name of the former minister’s wife.
Mrs. Stamatis denied all charges involving her in her husband’s illegal activities and claimed that she never took notice of, or part in, the transactions the former minister was engaging in. She declared that she was totally unconnected with the three obscure off shore companies – Nobilis, Torcasso and Blue Bell – and their owners.
“I was a loyal and dedicated partner to my husband and our child. I was never interested in the details of his actions, decisions and political related life,” noted Mrs. Stamatis.
Mrs. Stamatis’ defense lawyers commented on the harsh and unfair ruling of the judges, and underlined that by remanding Stamatis they would be separating a mother from her five-year old child.
