Danish Couple Visiting Crete for 27 Years Honored by Local Authorities

A Danish couple, who have been visiting the city of Aghios Nikolaos for the past 27 years, was honored on May 30 by the city’s mayor. Jethe Outzen and her hursband, Morten Boysen say that Aghios Nikolaos is their second homeland.
Fascinated by Aghios Nikolaos, but also by the broader region, the Danish couple visit Crete two or three times a year, mostly during the spring and the summer. What makes them come back year after year, you ask? It is the island’s natural beauty, of course.
During their meeting with mayor Dimitris Kounenakis, they stressed the fact that they enjoy, with great excitement, the love that locals show to them, that they have many close friends and that they feel really happy when they visit such a peaceful and hospitable environment. They also mentioned the mild climate of the area, which has nothing in common with the moist climate of Southern Denmark, where they live. But they did not forget to praise Cretan cuisine and the very good wine!
And when the mayor asked them if they have any remarks to make, they replied honestly enough that Cretans should try to avoid the chaotic building and that, during the night, they get frustrated by the motorbikes. Moreover, they said that the city needs more pavements and suggested using cars less or not at all in downtown Aghios Nikolaos.
The mayor gave the Danish couple commemorative gifts, thanked them for their visit to his office and wished them to be always healthy and happy, and to keep visiting Aghios Nikolaos.
