Greece has almost 200 inhabited islands, all alluring and beautiful. However, travel agencies keep suggesting only few particular crowded and popular destinations. But there is a great variety of options, all cheaper and quite as good as the more famous islands. Kos, for example, is a bucolic island in the eastern part of the Aegean Sea and a good choice for travellers.
Kos, the birthplace of Father of Western medicine Hippocrates, has many advantages that could make a tourist’s visit ideal. One can easily reach the island, as there are several direct flights from several European cities, including London, Rome and Brussels, and tourists could also visit other Greek islands by ferry. Bodrum in Turkey is also pretty close to Kos and thus, one can find cheap daily trips to Turkey, or even the Greek islands of Rhodes, Nisyros, the famous sponge divers’ island of Kalymnos and much more.
Kos is also a paradise for cyclists. It is a flat island, which you need only one hour to go along by car. A bike ride would be a good and not at all tiring idea, especially since there are bike trails all over the island.
For those willing to go sightseeing, Kos offers a castle dated back to the 3rd Century BC and an age-old tree, where Hippocrates was supposed to teach his students. The nightlife of the island includes everything and the alleys are very crowed till dawn during the summer months.
And there are long sandy beaches, with beach bars serving refreshing cocktails and other drinks.
And the best part is that businessmen of Kos have managed to keep their prices low, so that one can find many affordable accommodation offers or even cheap traditional Greek restaurants to enjoy Greek hospitality for a few euros. Remember, Greece is not only about Mykonos and Santorini!
