World Canyoning Tournament 2012 Held for First Time in Greece

The World Canyoning Tournament 2012 will take place for the first time in Greece this year on the mountain of the ancient Greek gods, Olympus, from June 7-10.
In the foothills of the highest mountain of Greece, the small town of Litochoro (90km from Thessaloniki and 22km from Katerini) offers alternative sports enthusiasts from around the world the unique opportunity to experience canyoning in a country famous for its canyons, rivers, waterfalls and other natural beauties.
The Tournament will occur over a period of four days with the main competition, divided into two parts, taking place over a period of three. The first part features the Prologue Race, which includes an archetype Technical Track, while the second part, the Main Race, involves the ascent and descent of the trail around Orlias Canyon. The choice of locale for the tournament was made because of the canyon’s easy accessibility, easily accessible escape routes, and the canyon’s magnificent descents which challenge even the most advanced climber with their technical difficulty.
The event will also host many fringe activities during the four-day period, such as a music and dance festival, a photography exhibition, the goal being to provide an Interactive Park of Alternative Athleticism.
The Tournament is the biggest canyoning event ever to take place on such a global scale.  It is organized by Adventure X Crossroads, a newly established company in the Global Extreme Sports Industry that consists of a group of leading partners. Its main goal is to bring together the best athletes, both professional and amateur extreme sport enthusiasts, house them under one common roof to develop friendship, forge bonds and collaborate on common, international competitions and events.
