100 Turkish Pupils Visit Chios Accepting the Mayor's Invitation

The Municipality of Chios, the beautiful island of the Aegean Sea, received one hundred Turkish pupils from the city of Smyrna on June 1 according to Greek-Turkish News. The Mayor is making a concerted effort to promote the island to the neighbor next door following a series of intercultural events which are now proving common between Chios and Smyrna.
One hundred Turkish children arrived this past Friday morning escorted by their teachers in Chios, where local Greek pupils looked forward to meeting with them after having visited them in Turkey a week earlier. These school excursions between the two cities are becoming more common in the wake of the cooperative agreement that Smyrna and Chios have signed.
Chios Mayor and other local presidents welcomed the Turkish pupils in the city’s Town Hall. The attendees gave speeches on the importance of the cultural exchange between the two countries. The common theme that ran through all the speeches was the importance of the need to boost bilateral relations. The visa issue was yet again discussed acknowledging that great progress has been made, but noting that things should get easier for nationals to travel problem-free to and from  Greece and Turkey, respectively.
