New Elections to Cost Greece Less Than the May 6th Round

A series of cost-effective measures have been put in place aimed at reducing the cost of the coming elections on June 17 by 30%. Using faxes instead of telegrams to submit official results are among the cost-cutting measures introduced by the caretaker government for the June 17th election.
The state will spend 30 percent less on the second round of elections, the caretaker interior minister told a meeting with the chairs of the country’s regional governors and mayors on Monday.
The May 6th poll cost Greece  €50 million, while this Sunday’s poll is expected to cost 35 million, Antonis Manitakis stated yesterday. That is rather positive news, but we are still gearing up to spend a great sum following in the event the parties cannot form a coalition government like they did last month.
He said €800,000 will be saved by ending the requirement that official results be submitted by telegram to the interior ministry. Officials must now use fax machines to forward results to the local municipality. A small change that could save much.
