2012 Penny Marathon for Stray Animals to Take Place on July 16

The Greek Australian sisters who organized the Penny Marathon – in support of the stray animals of Greece and Australia – are overwhelmed with the support they have received leading up to the marathon on 16 July as they admit to neoskosmos.com.
The sisters Eleftheria and Despina Prodromou will run 15,000 kilometres from Marathon to Athens on July 16 to raise money and awareness for stray animals in both Greece and Australia.
The Penny Marathon 2012, named by the sisters after the stray dog Penny who captured their hearts, will take place during one of the hottest days of Greek summer, which demonstrates the determination of the girls to help our less fortunate furry friends.
“This marathon is a bold choice for us, but we had to be bold to get the message across,” said the girls of the marathon. “Beyond the animals themselves and all the heinous things that humans put them through, this marathon is an acknowledgment of the special volunteers that move heaven and earth to help. We take our hats off to you.”
The sisters will not be alone, as they will be joined by numerous other volunteers.
Their fundraising efforts are continuing until the day of the marathon; so far almost half of their $5000 goal has been pledged. Donations can be made: www.everydayhero.com.au/penny_marathon_2012.
