Archbishop Ieronymos Honors Benefactors Nikos and Panayiotis Papageorgiou

Archbishop of Athens and All Greece Ieronymos awarded brothers Nikos and Panayiotis Papageorgiou with a First-Class Medal for their 12-year-long contributions to society, during a special ceremony that was held on the premises of the Papageorgiou Hospital.
The Brothers Papageorgiou, who have been declared modern national benefactors, continue offering their services through the “Papageorgiou Estia,” which will be a care unit for the elderly in Thessaloniki. The project is to be completed by next year. The philanthropic efforts of the eminent brothers are much bigger than most people know of. They plan to build a chronic care unit in Filyro and will also offer free camp holidays in Poseidi to children from West Thessaloniki.
The social work of the Papageorgiou brothers started long before that, when they founded a high school in Siatista, the Orthodox Church of St George in Frankfurt and, of course, the praiseworthy Papageorgiou Hospital in Thessaloniki for which they donated $30 million.
Archbishop Ieronymos noted that the unemployed and the hungry are the ones who can describe the fading human dignity better, praising the brothers for offering hope to the younger generations. In these times of crisis, people must support one another, added His Holiness.
Nikos Papageorgiou, who was the only one of the brothers who managed to attend the ceremony, explained that the “Papageorgiou Estia” for the elderly will be completed within a year, while adding that the construction papers for the facility in Filyro  have already been submitted to the authorities for examination.
