Motorcyclist Injures Mothers and Her Twin Children and Flees the Scene

A 21-year-old motorcyclist surrendered to police on Thursday after seriously injuring a Polish national mother and both her seven-year-old twins earlier in the day.
According to police reports, the accident occurred after the motorcyclist ran a red light at the intersection of Patission and Trias Streets in Athens. The man, a permanent non-commissioned Hellenic Navy officer, fled the scene immediately after the accident before turning himself in a few hours later.
Prior to the accident he had also injured a cyclist. He stated that he fled the scene because he was frightened.
The mother and children were taken by ambulance to Evangelismos Hospital and the Pedon Children’s Hospital, respectively.
The children are being held in the intensive care unit. The one twin, a boy, has multiple fractures in the extremities and jaw, as well as injuries to the face and mouth. The other twin, a girl, suffered lighter injuries. The doctors said that it appeared feasible to stabilize the condition of the girl, but much more difficult for the boy. The mother is reported to be in serious condition as well.
