Israeli President's First Official Visit to Greece in August

Israeli President Shimon Peres will pay a historic visit to Greece this coming August, following the visit of Greek President Papoulias to Israel.
It will be the first official visit of Israel’s President to Athens.
Two years ago in 2010, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited former Greek PM George Papandreou in Athens, marking the beginning of a new era in the diplomatic relations of the two countries.
Bilateral relations had been “frozen” for two years amid the ominous financial situation of our country, but now the friendship can be boosted once again.
The Israeli President will meet his counterpart as well as Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras. He will be accompanied by some of his ministers who will meet with their counterparts in Greece and discuss matters of mutual interest.
During his three-day visit, a special emphasis will be put on discussions over energy matters in the Mediterranean.
