Journalist George Carter Passes Away at 84

Legendary journalist and poet George Carter passed away on Sunday July 22, 2012 at the age of 84.
George Carter was born in Corfu and studied at the Drama School of the Greek National Theatre and the Athens School of Fine Arts. He worked as a radio producer and marked the first years of the Greek TV era.
He worked as a TV news anchor at the national television and hosted other shows as well. His poetic work appeared in 1945 and he published more than 33 books. Many of his works were translated into French, Italian, Turkish, Romanian, German, Bulgarian, Hungarian and Spanish. Some of his finest poems were turned into songs and were broadcasted by the Greek national radio.
He has been honored with several awards for his quality of work on the radio and poetry as well. Corfu has particularly acknowledged his worthiness over the years and has honored him with a number of awards, the last being on April 2011.
Greek journalists feel the loss of the great man who left a mark on the early beginnings of Greece’s modern journalism and left us with such a poetic heritage.
