Economides: Rebranding Greece Changing Country’s Image

Peter Economides

ATHENS – Marketing specialist Peter Economides says his campaign “Give Greece a Chance” to promote positive feelings toward Greece globally is working. “We can already speak of success. More than 90 European journalists have already sent us e-mails asking for more information,” while the web page www.greeceischanging.com numbers more than 120,000 visitors, of which only 8,000 come fromGreece.

“A city in Finland has asked us to include the page URL on its official Internet page. The response in social media, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube is impressive and is continually rising. Of course there is criticism, but the important thing is that Greece, for the first time, is standing alongside European citizens and is not attacking, but instead is trying to explain the situation while promising changes,” he said of the Greek economic crisis that has brought much criticism.

“This initiative has not started due to the willingness of the Europeans to hear something different, but because Greeks want to promote a different image for themselves. ‘Rebranding Greece’ has major importance as Greece has never been able in the past to control its reputation successfully. Greece is one of the greatest brands that has never been branded, and this is what we are trying to do. We hope that things will go well”.
