Mt. Athos Bureau Eyed for St. Petersburg

In his greeting speech during the Central Conference of the 28th International Tourism Exhibition Philoxenia, Thessaloniki Mayor Yiannis Boutaris discussed with Russian authorities the idea of opening a bureau St. Petersburg for Mt. Athos to attract visitors there.
He said that cooperation with the municipality of Veria concerning the promotion of the pilgrimage tourism schedule is already on its way, following the example of Agios Paulos in Northern Greece.
He also announced that two statues of Saints Cyril and Methodius will be located in front of the church of Cyril and Methodius in Thessaloniki. Boutaris said that the statues were funded by donations and he reminded that there are more than 15 UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Thessaloniki and its geographical neighborhood, including Mt. Athos.
