Cold Pool Forces Greek Swimmers to Turkey

According to the Greek daily paper Eleftheros Typos report, the swimming pool in Orestiada has been closed for the winter season due to lack of funding, leaving swimmers to have to travel to Andrianoupoli, Turkey for training.
Orestiada’s Mayor Dimitris Mouzas, said, “I have no money. I prefer to get oil for schools’ heating. I have no choice.” He added that the pool is closing only for the winter. It was built in 2010. He said it costs 50,000 euros to heat it.
The swimming club’s President, Odysseas Petsidis, said that the Turks suggested the Greek athletes train in Andrianoupoli. “Unfortunately, we had to accept it, as Andrianoupoli is just 22 kilometers away from Orestiada,” Petsidis said.
