Police arrest man over Xanthi murder
The heinous murder of 34 year-old Zoe Dalakidou, who was raped and burned alive shocked the local community of Xanthi.
A 27- year-old man confessed to committing the crime. Media reports said a security guard had seen the man cruising drunk around the area near the victim’s parental home, a few minutes before committing his dreadful crime. The victim was standing in front of her parents’ house ready to enter.
According to George Godosidis, the local police chief, the offender was known to the police for other rape crimes in the past. The suspect was the victim’s neighbor and owned a greengrocery in Xanthi.
At first he professed innocence, but after the police conducted an investigation about him and found his fingerprints on a car near the crime scene, he calmly confessed to the crime. He said he was sexually drawn to the victim and that’s why he raped her, and burned her to erase his tracks.
