Athens Academy Honors Pakistanis

pakistanoiA posthumous prize from the Academy of Athens was awarded to two Pakistanis aged 32 and 18 respectively, who were killed in their efforts to extricate an elderly couple from train rails. The awards went to Hamayun Anwar and Wakar Ahmed, for an ultimate act of self-sacrifice.
The incident in April 2012, at the height of Krioneri.  The elderly couple, traveling by car, were in their vehicle, stuck on the tracks with the train approaching. The two men tried to get them out, but were killed along with them when the train hit them. A third Pakistani was injured and taken to a hospital.
