Koutoupas Second at Prague Poker Tourney

KounoupasOne of the favorite pastimes of gamblers is poker, a game so popular now that millions play on-line and televised tournaments and championships have a wide following. The players hope to become rich and some even gain fame through their exploits.
Sotiris Koutoupas made it happen. The card player from Nea Vrasna, Thessaloniki, on Dec. 15 finished runner-up at the European Poker Tour stop in Prague, winning 510,000 euros, some $673,400, the largest amount ever won by a Greek player.
He played in two online satellites (low buy-in poker tournament that awards winners an entry to a higher buy-in poker tournament and made it to the final, where a Swede, Ramsi Jelassi, finished first and won 835,000 euros, some $1.1 million.
Koutoupas noted that he just began realizing what he achieved and hope his success will pave the way for more Greeks to be as lucky – or skilled- at perhaps the world’s most popular card game.
