Patras Carnival Brings The Joy

patrasincarnival500The opening ceremony of the carnival will take place on Jan. 19, bringing some much-needed festivity during a crushing economic crisis that has dispirited many Greeks.
The President of Patras municipal utility Patras Carnival Charalambos Karkoulias, stated, “In such a difficult period, the carnival opens its wings and invites everyone to enjoy its relaxation and magic.”
Indeed, as he noted, “The Carnival, that is to last for two months approximately during this year, is a fun and unique way of escaping from the difficulties of everyday life.” He said it “hopes to entice and seduce those who participate in it as well as those who attend the events, in exciting paths of joy, fun, subversion and creation.”
Regarding the opening ceremony’s events, Karkoulias stressed that “having taken into serious account the difficult financial circumstances that we go through at the moment, we have designed an opening day, that lacks neither in aesthetic and quality nor in the authentic elements of carnival fun.”
This year, the vast majority of activities are based on local artistic creation, since a large number of teams and players have decided to join their forces together. Those activities will begin at 11 a.m. and will create a festive atmosphere in the city center. On the Rigas Fereos walkway two music stages are going to be set, where music bands and orchestras will play live while at the same time groups and dance schools are going to perform dancing.
