In promotion of the Athos region in Halkidiki, the Tourism Development Agency recently participated for the second time in the thematic exhibition Balkanica Wedding Expo which was held in Sofia, Bulgaria. It attempts to convince couples who are getting married abroad, especially from the Balkans, to actually live a fairy tale wedding in an Athonite style.
Hundreds of couples visited the pavilion of the Mount Athos Area for more information on the region as a wedding destination.
“We have had some reservations during the exhibition, not for weddings but for honeymoons, from Bulgarian couples. To some extent, our region has already started to become popular abroad as a wedding destination, thanks to the many foreign weddings, arranged in a region’s hotel, but after this second participation of ours in Balkanica Expo, we will continue this effort, making innovative promotional activities, “Maria Pappa, Marketing Director of the Organization of Tourist Development for the Area before Mount, told ANA-MPA.
She also stated that this coming May, tour operators from abroad will be invited to a traditional event with a donkey-wedding in Ammouliani so as to actually experience the Athonite special ceremony.
The only problem according to Pappa is that: “We searching among friends and relatives for the first couple which is to get married in May, because we want our guests’ experience to be completely authentic and not fake.”
