Greece Dead Last in Competitiveness

index8Even as Greek officials are crowing this will be the last year of the country’s deep recession and foreign investors are eagerly being sought, Greece was ranked as the least competitive manufacturing power among 38 participating nations in the 2013 Global Manufacturing Competitiveness Index.
The survey was issued by Deloitte and based on an in-depth analysis of survey responses from more than 550 chief executive officers (CEOs) and senior leaders at manufacturing companies around the world in 2012.
The survey jointly conducted by Deloitte Manufacturing Industry Group and the US Council on Competitiveness is considered as an effort to understand the tensions creating competitiveness in the field of manufacturing between established and emerging players.
The report confirmed that the landscape for competitive manufacturing is in the midst of a massive power shift. As far as Greece is concerned, the need for immediate growth of competitiveness in manufacturing has become imperative now more than ever due to the poor domestic economy. Manufacturing products of high value and know-how could support the Greek economy and provide employment.
According to the report, China is the leading manufacturing country in the world and will be for five years. Germany and the United States round out the top three competitive manufacturing nations followed by Indian, South Korea, Taiwan, Canada, Brazil, Singapore and Japan(10th).
