Greek Hoteliers See Better Season

hotelAfter a terrible year in 2012 when visitors stayed away in droves because of images of political and social unrest and relentless strikes that shut down public services and transportation, Greek hoteliers seem to be optimistic they will return this year, according to the Tourism Barometer report conducted and issued by the GBR Consulting.
The survey said the first quarter of this year has pretty much been written off, but that hotel owners expect to see rising occupancy rates during the height of the tourist season, with more price reductions being offered.
As cited in the “Barometer of Tourism” this optimism is not about the first three months of 2013, for which stabilising occupancies are expected with declining room rates, but about the next 6 months. Athenian hoteliers are expecting a stabilization in occupancy and a lesser decline in rates.
Optimism is highest among luxury hotels, with those who run cheaper establishments said they are more conservative and expect a smaller occupancy increase despite lower rates.
