Stournaras Gets a Bullet in the Mail

stournaras_sferaGreek Minister of Finance Yiannis Stournaras, who has devised new austerity measures that have infuriated many Greeks already suffering from repeated pay cuts, tax hikes and slashed pensions, has reportedly received an envelope containing a bullet and a life-threatening note, according to the website antinews.gr.
Police said they don’t have any leads that would direct them yet to whomever sent it. The list of government officials is a long one, although Stournaras has won praise from international officials for his even-handed attempts at reforms, including being the first to want stronger measures taken against tax cheats, including mandatory jail time.
According to the antinews report, the incident raised concerns not only in the Ministry and the family of the Greek Minister, but among government officials as well. Stournaras has pointed out to interviewers in his office a bullet hole in a window that was fired through it before he took office last year..
The Anti-Terrorist Unit of the Greek Police has sent the envelope and its contents to the Forensic Labs for analysis. According to information, the threatening note was signed by the “Cretan Revolution”.
