Thessaloniki and Macedonian Art Museums to Merge

mouseio3The merger between the State Museum of Contemporary Art in Thessaloniki, and the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art was announced in a press conference given to the Region of Central Macedonia.
The Deputy Minister of Education, Religion, Culture and Sports and also responsible for YPAITHPA,  Costas Tzavaras, referring to the merger of the two museums stated that: “this is a request that has blossomed. The two museums have the same object.  An extrovert institution is being created and soon it will lead to the creation of the largest museum in Greece and one of the largest museums of contemporary art in Europe aiming at promoting contemporary art. ”
The merger was welcomes by the chairwomen of both museums, Katerina Koskina and Xanthipi Heupel, who attended the press conference. They both emphasized the need for the new museum to be an extroverted organization.
It is noted that the Photography Museum is not included in the merger, since it is going to operate as a legal entity governed by private law.
