Corfu Man Falls Victim to Flu

H1NIA 36-year-old man on the island of Corfu has died from the flu, becoming the seventh victim of the disease this season, putting the Hellenic Center for Disease Control & Prevention on alert.
The man did not suffer from any serious disease, but was overweight. This is the second under-50 year-old victim. Last week, a 37-year-old man in Alexandroupoli succumbed.
Experts at the disease control office are recording the cases that are occurring daily. Compared to previous years, the flu is relatively low, due to the weather, but officials are nonetheless concerned.
According to the Epidemiological Report of the center, there are 30 confirmed cases of influenza, 28 infected by the same type B flu, while the other two by type A. Until last week there were 33 serious cases, of 31 which were hospitalized in Intensive Care Units.
Media reports said that health officials are advising those in high-risk groups, such as the elderly and young and those suffering from cardiovascular or respiratory illnesses, to get vaccinated. Officials expect the flu will run its course by late March.
