AUTH Will Work With Alexandria Library

APTHAUTH Rector Yiannis Mylopoulos with the Educative Attaché Embassy of the Arabic Republic of Egypt in Athens, Dr. Hisham Darwish, discussed the opportunities for cooperation between the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and the Library of Alexandria.
Darwish, submitted a proposal to Mylopoulos, to establish an Arab Studies Chair at the Aristotle University and a Greek Studies Chair at the University of Alexandria. This proposal coincides chronologically with the Rector’s announcement that AUTH has already initiated the procedures for the reestablishment of a Jewish Studies Chair, the operation of which had stopped because of the Metaxas dictatorship.
Among other things discussed, was the possibility of organizing joint events for Cavafi, since 2013 has been designated as the “Year of Constantine Cavafy” to mark the 150th anniversary of the world-renowned poet’s birth.
Darwish met with Simos Daniilides, Mayor of Neapolis, Sykeon and discussed the students exchange program, under the educational agreement between Greece and Egypt.
