Macedonia Palace Opens Its Doors Again

MAKEDONIA-PALACE1With high occupancy, with many Russians and Israeli visitors and slightly renovated, the historic hotel Macedonia Palace reopened on March 14. The hotel had remained closed since New Year’s Eve, after the company AXTE Daskalantonakis group which rented the hotel for the last 16 years left.
“Already, the new company renting the hotel (White & Black belonging to the major PAOK shareholder, Ivan Savvides) asked the employees to return while the preparing procedures of the hotel have already started.  92% of the 120 employees are expected to work again, as required by the lease agreement.
“When the contracts are signed, they will involve only the next 12 months (the new leasing contract is for one year) and there is no commitment about what will happen thereafter. So we’re ready,” the president of the Syndicate of Workers of Tourist Enterprises of Thessaloniki, Halkidiki and Pieria (SETEPE), Kyriakos Tsiaousis told AMNA.
Over 250 rooms (a total of 260 rooms and 24 suites) are ready to welcome the first customers in 2013. “We have been told that the new visitors come from Russia and Israel, though we don’t know any details” a worker of the hotel noted.
According to the worker, the restorations made to renovate the interior are mainly in the reception and the main lobby areas.
