Crete Wants the Honeymooners

weddingsOn March 16, Zacharias Doxastakis, Mayor of the Hersonissos municipality in Crete, presented a program of political-actions for promoting sustainable tourism development.
Among others, particular emphasis was given on the municipality’s aims to promote wedding tourism, and as Doxastakis stressed, he has already asked the ministry for civil ceremonies to be officiated every day of the week instead of one day, which is now the case.
He also called for the ministry to give its permission to couples to have their civil wedding  ceremony anywhere, such as beaches, hotels, etc., given that this initiative would attract more tourists who wish to get married in Crete.
The mayor talked about a targeted tourism stressing: “We are changing our tourism policy aiming at attracting more visitors who will find what they are looking for in Hersonissos.”
Doxastakis emphasized on the tourist product upgrading, as well as the mainland’s connection to the beach, and the municipality’s intention to promote Aposelemis Dam, making it soon a great tourist magnet.
