Tax Filing Extension for Greeks Abroad

f876f4d6211bf2eeb23701c816c4c8f9_XL-300x200A new three-month extension has been granted by the Greek Ministry of Finance to Greeks living abroad and declare their income in Greece, in order to give taxpayers enough time to prepare their filings after an earlier three-month extension expiring today, March 29. The new deadline is set for June 28.
Greeks who declare domicile or habitual residence abroad are subject to taxation only on their income from Greece and must report their earnings and avoid being taxed in both countries on their global income. Those who have no income in Greece are not required to file in Greece.
Documents and certificates of taxes and residency can take 45 days or more to be issued.
The relevant draft law has already been passed by the Parliament and will be soon be included in the Government Gazette explaining all certificates and licenses required by residents who claim to be only taxed for income in Greece.
A decision signed by the Minister of Finance will soon follow the publication of this law, which will set out the details of this simplified application process.
