Greek Artist's Naked Silhouette Alphabet

8600640297_ca0af01770_bThrough the art of photography the young Greek artist Anastasia Mastrakouli has created a unique typography by incorporating the bare human figure.
She has in fact created an alphabet from silhouettes of her own naked body to draw our attention to the connection between anatomy and visual art and to actually highlight the relationship that people have with their bodies.
These naked silhouettes form gestures to create each letter of the alphabet as they interact and press against the pane of wet glass.
By forming the English alphabet, her work addresses a particular group of observers outside her native country, Greece.
She seems to explore the erotic suspense of the naked female form by using the notion of a steamy glass screen behind which the action is taking place. But then, the abstract shape of the letters that are imperfectly formed and need interpretation, is what makes us look more closely at the shape behind the letter.
At the time this work was being created, the artist was still a student at the Ionian University in Corfu.
