Greece Sees Drop In Crime Rate

police_carDespite fears that the country’s crushing economic crisis would create a surge in violence, robberies and other serious crime, Greek police report that the number of crimes fell in the first two months of this year.
Homicides fell by 22.5 percent compared to the same period in 2012 while store robberies fell 49 percent. Muggings and burglaries dropped by 17.10 and 16.07 percent respectively.
During January and February of 2013, police said they solved 2.28 more robberies than last year, though, the percentage of overall unsolved crimes increased by 2.67 compared to 2012.
Greek Police hopes that the decline of crime rate in Greece will continue the same for the rest of the year, as less crimes were reported during March as well but haven’t been quantified yet. Greece traditionally has one of the lowest crime rates in Europe and, by comparison for example, serious crimes are far less across the board than in Italy.
