Greece Assists Search For Missing Bishops

Paul YazigiGreece has dispatched Deputy Foreign Minister Costas Tsiaras to Lebanon to help officials in the northern Syrian province of Aleppo locate two missing Orthodox Bishops who disappeared in the country’s civil war earlier this month, believed kidnapped by  armed rebels.

Greek Orthodox Archbishop Boulos Yazigi and Syriac Orthodox Archbishop Yohanna Ibrahim were seized near the northern commercial and industrial hub of Aleppo, which is contested by rebels and forces loyal to President Bashar al-Assad. Their whereabouts remain unknown.

Gunmen pulled the Bishops from their car and killed their driver. Church officials said it’s believed the gunmen are Chechen fighters from the al-Qaida-affiliated Jabhat al-Nusra group, one of the most powerful of the myriad of rebel factions fighting in Syria to overthrow the regime of Assad.

The main Syrian opposition group, the Syrian National Coalition, condemned the kidnapping and blamed Assad’s regime. Pope Francis called for the rapid release of two bishops. In his appeal the Pope called the abduction “a dramatic confirmation of the tragic situation in which the Syrian population and its Christian community is living.”

    1. Wow. The leftist trolls on Greek Reporter bothered to mentioning an incident of prejudice against Greeks.

Equally surprising they didn’t blame the priest as being a neo-Nazi human rights violator for getting kidnapped.

    2. Please pray to ethnic Bulgarians for the safe return of our Blood brothers.

“We are Bulgarian more than the Bulgarians in Bulgaria.” – Krste Misirkov

    3. “Over half of the population in Athens have a Turkish surname” – Nikos Raptis (Of Greeks & of Turks)

    4. Dear Alexander-ski the Great-ski,

      a. You are misquoting Raptis He did mention some Greeks have Turkish sounding last names but not “half of athens” as you liar. What he said is half of Greeces population is in Athens. Here is exactly what he wrote.,
      http://www.zcommunications.org/of-turks-and-of-greeks-by-nikos-raptis

      b. Raptis is an idiot because he does not make the distinction between Turkish sounding and Turkish .(his phrasing implies Turksih descent which is untrue – see Jews with enlgish sounding names to make it easier for them to fit in) Ethnic Turks were and are MUSLIMS and certainly not part of the RUM millet. (and conversion in the Ottoman empire was a death penalty)

      d. In Greek’s case only a small percentage of Greeks last names sound Turkish. In FYROM’s case ALL your last names are SLAVIC. Ancient macedonians, founders of the Hellenistic age, were in no shape or form Slavic dude.

      c. Unlike liar like you that misquote, I didn’t misquote your so-called “Macedonian” national hero Krste Misirkov. Here are more gems by him

“The population of Skopje is pure Bulgarian.”

“We did indeed call ourselves “Bulgarians” and “Christians” in the national sense”

“The only Macedonian Slavs who played a leading part in the uprising were those who called themselves Bulgarians.”

“No matter whether we call ourselves Bulgarians or Macedonians we shall always feel as a nationality with a Bulgarian national consciousness”

    5. Leftist Andy writes 100 anti-Greek articles for every article he writes about on racism directed against Greeks. This is an inversion of the reality that there is massive racism against Greeks these days.

Large number of foriegner that called FYROM “Macedonia” now pretend not to notice their little transformation from Slavs into ancient macedonians. This would include some of the staff of NGOs like Amnesty International and even mainstream media like the Guardian that eve try to whitewash FYROM’a attempts to usurp our history and threats against our country. (effectively now inch-by-inch colluding in their attempts to delete our very identity to hide their shame for calling them “Macedonians”)
