Greek Police Break Counterfeit Ring

counterfeitPolice in Greece’s second-largest city, the northern port of Thessaloniki, said they arrested three men and a woman involved in currency counterfeiting, plus the owner of the printing shop they sublet to work at night.
Police say they found in the printing shop and the home of one of the suspects $675,000 worth of minted 100-dollar notes plus another 15,000 uncut notes worth another $1.5 million. The suspects were also preparing to print 500-euro notes. Police say the imported paper and the printing press were “top quality” and that the notes would be undetectable by most scanners.
The five suspects were arrested after police posed as gang members interested in buying banknotes. They have been charged with forming a criminal gang and counterfeiting, both felonies, the AP reported.
