Coach Donis Dismissed from PAOK

donis_390_2904The coach of the Greek football club PAOK, Giorgos Donis was dismissed on April 29, as PAOK announced, after the team was eliminated in the Greek Cup semi-finals by Asteras Tripolis on April 27.
According to sources, Donis has sent an extrajudicial to PAOK’s president, Zisis Vryzas and to the major shareholder, Ivan Savvidis, a fact that undermined his reliability and the relationship of trust between Donis and the club.
As a result, the club announced Donis’ sacking, “due to an important reason for which he is to blame,” because they think that the extrajudicial defamed PAOK FC, the team’s owner and president.
The technical leadership of PAOK for the six games of the Super league playoffs will be undertaken by Giorgos Georgiadis, the former Greece under-21 manager. PAOK states in the announcement: “We apologize to those who traveled to Tripoli and to those who dreamed about PAOK’s participation in the Cup’s finals.”
Donis joined the club at the start of the season after leaving Atromitos, finishing second in the 16-team league behind champion Olympiakos.
Donis and PAOK reportedly might end up in court to resolve the issue of the severance pay the manager is entitled to according to his contract, as reported in the newspaper Kathimerini.
