President Papoulias Meets AHI Delegation

papouliasPresident of the Greek Republic, Karolos Papoulias, received a delegation of the American Hellenic Institute (AHI) at the Presidential Mansion on May 15.
Head of the delegation was Nick Larigakis, AHI President and Board Secretary, the members of the Board of Directors Kostas Alexakis, Leon Andris and Gus Andy, as well as Georgea Polizos, AHI Legislative Assistant.
“It is very important that Greece, which makes considerable efforts, is overcoming the crisis and I have to tell you that, from the beginning, I was among the optimists believing that we will overcome the crisis. However, the sacrifices are many and the weaker social groups paid and are still paying a big cost,” said the President.
He continued: “That was a fight we had to give, that we are still giving, and I can see that things are moving and that in the next year we may be in a better situation than the one we are in today.”
Papoulias referred to the big problem Greece faces, that is young people’s unemployment, as well as to the “pointed protest you made and  President Barack Obama’s stance on the Turkish-Israeli relations.”
He added: “President Obama had to think that the Turkish-Israeli relations concern him, but on the other hand, there are 30,000 Turkish occupation troops in the Republic of Cyprus.”
“You honor us by knowing the activities we promote in the USA. As you can see, we never stop pointing out and promoting whatever goes through our hands,” Larigakis answered. He added that the reaction towards President Obama concerning Israel matters was made because they “did not know what the American-Israeli organizations’ reaction would be.”
