AEK, Bankrupt Falls to 3rd Division

aekThe Greek football club AEK Athens is about to declare bankruptcy and voluntarily be  delegated to the National amateur division (3rd division).
AEK, which has always been Greece’s third largest club, apart from being delegated from the top league this season, also announced that it won’t be playing in the second division as the team needs more time to repair its financial situation.
As bostonerald reports, the club hit by Greece’s financial crisis and by debts, held an emergency shareholders meeting on May 14 and appointed its new board members, who will meet on June 7 to formally launch liquidation procedures. That means that from the new season, the club will be in the 3rd division and probably under the control of Dimitris Melissanidis.
Olympiakos won the 16-team championship with 77 points from 30 matches, while AEK ended second-to-last with 30 points.
