Congress Tourism in Greece Plummets

sinedriakos_tourismosGreece was not included on the list with the 20 most popular congress destinations for 2012.
The institution of congress tourism in Greece is moving downwards, according to the ICCA (International Congress & Convention Association) data. Athens ranked 35th with 55 conferences. Before 2011, Greece and Athens ranked 19th.
The years 2011 and 2012 were indisputably very difficult for the Greek congress market, but in no case does the country’s situation justify this classification, as the Hellenic Association of Professional Congress Organizers (HAPCO) pointed out in an announcement.
HAPCO represents professionals in congress organization and stresses out that it has repeatedly alerted the government by recording the problems of the market, submitting memos to the competent services and bodies, and has suggested an integrated action plan to the Ministry of Tourism for direct intervention, so that Greece will become a more attractive destination and will regain the rightful place it had in the world pyramid in the past.
