The World Naked Bike Ride will be held in the Greek city of Thessaloniki on June 7 for the sixth consecutive year. Organizers are calling citizens to say STOP to indecent exposure of humans and to the pollution of the planet.
World Naked Bike Ride is an international movement, in which more than 70 cities around the whole world participate. This year, the 6th World Naked Bike Ride in Thessaloniki is co-organized with the open festival of claiming free green areas,Thanks for Disturbing 6 by Kids in Action, who are celebrating their ten years of existence at the same place on June 8.
The World Naked Bike Ride screenings include the awarded in the 11th Thessaloniki Documentary Festival documentary, We Took off our Cclothes, about the 1st World Naked Bike Ride in Greece, and World Naked Bike Ride London 2005 about the bike ride in London.
“We are facing cars’ traffic with our naked bodies as the best way to defend our dignity. Our body is the most natural thing we have and is definitely more beautiful than our cars’ exhausts. In society today, the naked body is a product of exploitation by a whole industry. Free it, the organizers pointed out.
The bike ride has a peaceful and artistic character. Painted and trimmed bodies and bikes, natural decoration, accessories, colors and music will be the weapons to claim cities that will be more and more friendly to human, the environment and the bicycle. The organizers invite people to join the bike ride naked if they dare, with high spirits and fantasy, “as mother nature bore you.” Participants can also use alternative non-motorized means of transport as skate-rollers. At the end of the ride, a party will follow.
The World Naked Bike Ride is a worldwide movement that supports the use of the bicycle as an alternative means of transportation. It took place for the first time in Vancouver, Canada in 2004. Since then, it has been held annually in 73 different cities around the world. It is a self-organized event by ordinary active citizens and is supported by various collectives of the city.
