5 Richter Earthquake Shakes Messinia

geodinamiko_515_355According to the Research Director of the Institute of Geodynamics, seismologist Athanasios Ganas, the earthquake, which had a magnitude of 5 on the Richter scale, had a focal depth of 38 kilometers. It was superficial and that’s why the region was shaken up.
It occurred at 14:53 in the underwater area between Finicounda and Methoni, Messinia.
As Ganas stated, “The earthquake does not cause any concern because it took place in an area of intense seismic activity which gives earthquakes of this magnitude.”
So far, the police and the fire department haven’t reported any injured or damages. According to PatrisNews, the quake was felt in south Ilia and Lakonia.
