Kiligaridis had initially visited Bydgoszcz in Poland for a competition. He was found unconscious in his hotel room by his roommate and Polish coach.
The Greek champion’s brain cells had necrosis and a medical press conference was held so he could be transferred to another hospital in a neighboring country.
His relatives had been facing a major problem for days now because of a law in Poland, according to which, anyone considered to be clinically dead is immediately disconnected from the life support machine.
The sad news has already spread among Greek athletes as well, causing great grief as everyone had been crossing their fingers for his health to improve.
During his last moments his wife was by his side, sleeping in the hospital the whole week.
