Three Doctors in Heraklion Guilty of Manslaughter

h4656293.limghandlerThree doctors have been found guilty of manslaughter by the Three-Member Misdemeanor Court of Heraklion of the death of 33-year-old Mary Voulgaridi – Theodosaki, eight months pregnant, who left her last breath together with her unborn baby boy in April 2009, at the Venizelio Hospital of Heraklion.
The unfortunate 33-year-old nurse was taken to the hospital suffering from dyspnoea and pain.
A marathon court has started as the trial has been repeatedly postponed. The court, after a marathon process, with its decision issued at 5 a.m., accepted the prosecutor’s sentence and found the three doctors guilty. The former director of the clinic was sentenced to 4.5 years, the doctor on call to two years, and the resident doctor to one year.
Moreover, the director of the obstetrics clinic was found guilty of misconduct. The Three-Member Misdemeanor Heraklion Court acquitted six other defendants, among them, the second intern doctor, the radiologist, the intern radiologist as well as the private doctor.
The three convicted doctors will appeal the Court’s decision.
