Significant Delays in VAT Rebates

BCE71A1D39F486DAF25C50867A03658BA growing number of businesses around Greece report long and unjustified delays in their VAT rebates. Only one in ten businesses have received their tax rebates by mid June.
Of the 10,533 existing cases of tax rebates, only 1,562 have been paid out, while 2,713 are being processed and 7,671 remain unpaid. According to the announcement made by the General Secretary of Public Revenue, the outstanding rebates reach the amount of 1.23 billion euros.
The reported delays are longer than 120 days and show the ineffectiveness of the legislation.
According to the recent legislation that sought to speed up the procedure, the tax services are to automatically balance money owed to and from the State. Then the beneficiary gets a check with his name on it, for sums up to 300,000 euros. For larger sums, the rebate can take up to three months.
