15946BBA4AFF404F7859B0E798915883“I will encourage Chinese businesses to invest in your country”- A Chinese fund is interested in the site of the old Athens airport in Hellinikon.
The powerful man of COSCO, Captain Wei Jiafu, used the example of the artificial island-hotel in Dubai, to show the extent of the projects the Chinese businessmen have in mind for Greece.
Speaking at the event on the signing of  the memorandum of cooperation between the Ministry of Shipping, COSCO PCT, PPA SA and the Hellenic Republic Asset Development Fund, for the extension of the West Pier III, Captain Wei Jiafu said that he will undertake to encourage the businesses of China to invest in Greece. He also revealed that a Chinese fund has already expressed an interest in the old airport in Hellinikon.
He even wondered what more Dubai could have in comparison to Greece, since it is only a desert.
The Minister of Shipping and Aegean Sea, Miltiadis Varvitsiotis, said that this is a very big investment in Greece and characterized Captain Wei Jiafu as a great friend of Greece.
“We believe in the creation of jobs through strategic investments that give depth to our economy and perspective to the new generations. We estimate that the strategic cooperation that began with China and COSCO is a relation that will characterize the following generations,” the minister said.
The President and CEO of PPA SA, Yiorgos Anomeritis, highlighted that, “We continue investment efforts in the port through COSCO and through the concessions policy that we know is the only way for development in the European port system.”
The President of the Hellenic Republic Asset Development Fund, Stelios Stavridis, after the signing of the cooperation stated,  “We are happy and proud that Greece can have such important partners who are able to create wealth for our society and Piraeus,” and added that, “The position of the Hellenic Republic Asset Development Fund is granted. We want the port of Piraeus to be developed completely and not one-sided.”
