Larissa, The City of Coffee

kafeteries._1jpgAs numbers show, Larissa is the city that never sleeps. And that because its inhabitants drink one third of the coffee consumed in the country! Employees in the central cafés claim that those who have little or no work drink coffee between 12.00-14.00 and 19.00-21.00.
University students who do not have or simply do not go to their classes. Students who skip school, or are on school excursions. Pensioners who enjoy their coffee while reading their newspaper. Housewives who take a break either from shopping or from housework, and many others.
According to Eleftheria and latrisanew, young people between 25-30 who have just taken their university degree and are waiting to be appointed or are searching for a job, line up with others trying to forget their anxiety about the future with a cup of espresso. Discussions, handshakes with friends and acquaintances make them forget for a while that they belong to the 22.9% of the country’s unemployed.
This coffee habit in Larissa has led to the creation of a special like page in Facebook under the very fitting name, Larissa: The City of Coffee and Fun.
Despite the accusations of the inhabitants of other large urban centers, who characterize the people of Larissa as idlers or as “the lazy of the fertile valley”, no one is fazed in Larissa. Greece may be in the 13th place in coffee consumption worldwide, but Larissa is the fist nationwide!
