Royal Princess Arrives in Piraeus

royalThe Royal Princess, the youngest and one of the biggest cruise ships in the world, arrived in Piraeus Port, Greece on July 1 for the first time. It had begun its journey on June 23 from Barcelona, Spain.
The new cruise ship was christened by Her Royal Highness, The Duchess of Cambridge, on June 13, 2013 and is the newest member of the Princess fleet.
It was constructed in Italy, it is 330 meters long and its crew consists of 1,346 members. It weighs 141,000 tons and can host 3,600 passengers in 1,780 cabins on its 18 decks.
Captain Tony Draper was welcomed by officials of the Piraeus Port Authority (PPA), while PPA President and CEO, George Anomeritis offered him a special commemorative plaque and books for the ship’s library.
Anomeritis stated that within the last five months, transit arrivals of passengers are up to 17,23 percent, while he noted that after containers, the field of cruise ships is what particularly interests PPA.princess
The Royal Princess’ first journey will be completed in Venice, Italy. Among the cruise liner’s stops will be the Greek island of Mykonos and Istanbul, Turkey.
The second cruise will begin on July 5 from Venice, while the Royal Princess will visit Piraeus Port again on July 8.
