3F708579219F3C18AAEE6B14CED46332The cargo ship CATHERINE under a Maltese flag, and the Panama-flagged vessel BARU SATU collided in the Strait Kafirea, seven nautical miles south-west of Andros.
There is currently no danger of the CATHERINE sinking after the rupture which resulted in a controlled inflow. No injuries have been reported, while both ships remain stranded. A tugboat is expected to arrive at the region to help.
Nine of the 23 crew members of the CATHERINE boarded on a port police float boat and were transferred to Karystos for safety reasons.
No water inflow was found in the BARU SATU with 17 crew members on board among whom there is also one Greek.
The causes of the accident haven’t been determined yet. Both vessels serve Greek interests.
The cargo vessel CATHERINE had sailed from the port of Novorossiysk on the Black sea to Italy carrying iron constructions. The BARU SATU was carrying sugar from the Greek port of Piraeus to Bulgaria.
Both vessels’ crew members are in good health.
