17FC02C814169560FA0B25A1D62491C6The police have erected roadblocks from Acherontas to the Greek Albanian borders in Thesprotia, Epirus, while fully armed policemen are sweeping the region to detect and arrest the criminal escapees.
The sea area from the village Ammoudia in Preveza to the village Sagiada in Thesprotia is being patrolled by the Igoumenitsa port police to prevent a possible escape by sea to Albania.
According to police estimates, the Trikala prison escapees, Mario Kola and Ilir Koupa are trying to escape to Albania. The police also believe that the other fugitives who are still at large, are already in Albania with the 1 million euros they stole from the Larisa branch of the National Bank of Greece. The police have lost the traces of another two men, as the escapees have split up.
According to police sources, the fugitives drove a NAVARA rural vehicle, which was stolen at Agrinio and didn’t stop at a roadblock in Arta, where they riddled a police car, without injuring any policeman and drove off.
Then they abandoned the vehicle at Fillipiada, Preveza and allegedly stole another car and moved to the villages Lakka Souli, where the area is inaccessible.
The police estimate that the escapees are now moving on foot, and are focusing their search on the region of  the Acherontas river springs. Strong police forces from Epirus along with the EKAM policemen are sweeping the plain and the rough terrain between the villages Paramythia and Glyki. As revealed by the police, the escapees abandoned the car at the village Glyki and stole a local resident’s motorbike for their getaway vehicle. A police helicopter also joined the search.
The Police Lt. General and Inspector General of the Northern Greece Police, Dimitrios. Tsaknakis is in Epirus.
