Greek-Italian Sea Battle in the Adriatic Sea

elladaIt is possible that the traffic volume in the Adriatic Sea lines might present an increase of 5-10 percent in relation to 2012, but Grimaldi Group with the Greek cruise companies Anek Lines and Attica Group, is the one to dominate in the Adriatic.
After Grimaldi Group’s decision to extend to the east, the victims are small Greek shipping companies and the Greek flag, and consequently Greek mariners’ jobs.
In contrast to other years, only one small Greek shipping company will be present in the Greece-Italy line in 2013, with one ship, while the number of ships with the Greek flag has been reduced.
Grimaldi Group is active in the Adriatic Sea through its subsidiary, Minoan Lines, with four ships in the Patras-Igoumenitsa-Ancona-Trieste line, and with two ships through Grimaldi Lines in the Patras-Igoumenitsa-Brindisi line.
Attica Group is active in the Patras-Igoumenitsa-Ancona line with two ships and the Patras-Igoumenitsa-Bari line with two ships. ANEK Lines has one ship in the Ancona line and three ships in the Patras-Igoumenitsa-Venice line. The ship European Express appeared in the Bari line just for the summer period.
Most of the aforementioned ships have the Italian flag, as well as the ships of Minoan Lines, Grimaldi Lines and two ships of ANEK, that is a total of eight ships that have the Italian flag. The ships of Attica Group and one ANEK ship, that is a total of five ships, have the Greek flag. The ship European Express has the Cypriot flag.
Greek coastal shipping operators said that the crucial matter of the competitiveness between the Italian and the Greek flag concerns the financial support of the Italian state towards the shipping companies.
According to calculations by ferry company executives, the wage cost of the ships that have the Greek flag is 50 percent higher than the wage cost of ships that have the Italian flag.
