Free Greek, Turkish Lessons in Thessaloniki

turkey-greeceIn the framework of the 2nd Intercultural Course in the Greek and Turkish languages, Greeks and Turks who wish to communicate by learning each others’ language will meet in the middle of August for 10 days in Thessaloniki.
The course, which will be attended by 50 individuals from Greece and Turkey, is a small scaleĀ  initiative of the non-profit corporation, DIALOGOS ā€“Actions of language and culture against fanaticism and intolerance.
The initiative aims at bringing Turkish and Greek students in the same classroom to practice their language skills with the facilitation of an experienced couple of instructors teaching in their mother tongue, and at the same time learning from one another.
The courses will take place from August 14 to 24 at the Olympia hotel in Thessaloniki and are addressed to Turks and Greeks, who speak one of the two languages as their mother tongue or have grown up and have attended all educational levels in one of the two countries respectively, who can at least write, read and understand simple sentences in the other language. An exclusively beginners group will be created as well, which will receive a limited number of participants.
All classes will consist of both Turkish and Greek students of the Greek and Turkish language respectively. The teaching of each language will occupy half the daily program with the method of pair work, which means that the teachers will help each couple of students (one Greek and one Turkish) talk to each other and practice specific skills.
The courses are free of charge and those interested can register for participation at http://dialogos.ikariancentre.com/lang/el/. The only cost is ā‚¬60 for enrollment to cover basic expenses for the classes and part of the teachersā€™ and organizersā€™ tickets because they work for free.
During their 10 days in Thessaloniki, the participants will attend a total of 35 hours (3,5 hours per day), while the remaining hours they can participate in a series of activities, such as visits to museums, an excursion to Mount Olympus, discussions, film projections and more. Participation in these activities is free and some of them will be open to the public.
