navarino-challenge_454280-450x277An initiative is starting in Messinia and Arcadia, the first marathon Navarino Challenge. The Ambassador of the Navarino Challenge, and supporter of the idea of fair play, will be the world’s leading Greek- American Supreme Marathon runner, Dean Karnazes.

The marathon aims at informing and preventing obesity especially at younger ages. There will also be a recommendation on the importance of the Mediterranean diet, which led to the selection of the Peloponnese because of the intense biodiversity of the region.

The race will offer the opportunity to people of all ages to join in, and will take place two days, from October 18 to 20.

The choice of the famous marathon runner was not random, since Karnazes himself has made a personal commitment to help improve the health and well being of young people, through a foundation he has established himself, called Karno Kids.

The starting point of the Navarino Challenge is Silimna of Arcadia, the place of origin of Karnazes’ family, while the third rally route ends at Costa Navarino in Messinia..

The Navarino Challenge is the first marathon race which aims at raising awareness of childhood obesity and the benefits of the Mediterranean diet.
